On the 5th June, eve of the 63rd anniversary of the Allied Landings in Normandy, veterans were warmly welcomed by the city of Caen as they layed wreaths at the foot of the spirits temple in the British Memorial garden in Caen. Created by the British Friends of Normandy Association, this center piece of the garden pays tribute to all those who lost their lives during the 1944 D-Day Landings. Jean-Pierre Viallaneix, deputy mayor, was present at the ceremony and also layed a wreath in tribute.

Following the ceremony and reception in honour of the veterans, the General Shireff, President of the British Friends of Normandy Association, addressed the gathering. This was followed by a military march from the British Royal Engineers band. The celebrations closed with a concert organised by the city of Caen.
